Limited cable length between remote room and SoundServer for IR signal
Solution for SoundServer only. Does not control an entire AV system.
Option 3 – Integrated IR and RF distribution.
Taking option 2 to the next stage, you can integrate a simple AV system with a professional RF/IR
distribution system. There are many systems but all share common features.
You take the composite TV output of a SoundServer and plug into a third-party RF modulator and
control box. This creates a new TV channel that can be distributed around the home using standard RF
cabling.
At each remote site you have a decoder box that can leave the TV signal as RF or convert back to
composite video. This can be viewed on any TV
The same box accepts the IR commands and passes them back using the same RF cabling to the
SoundServer.
At the SoundServer end the IR commands are emitted from the third-party control box and received by
the SoundServers IR receiver.
Uses only one cable run for IR and User interface
Almost unlimited cable length allows you to reach distant bedrooms
Browsing and user feedback available on TV screen and possibly the IR
handset.
Can integrate in with DVD/CD/Satellite control
Needs custom installation
Usually only mono audio comes down the RF cable so you still need high quality
stereo cabling to each remote site as well as RF
Appendix A – Gracenote CDDB2
